Smartphone usage has changed widely around the world this year due to the pandemic, and as a result, Xiaomi beats Apple as the world’s No 3 smartphone manufacturer. According to Gartner, the estimation of smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2020 is 366 million units, and Xiaomi has made sales of 44.4 million units compared to Apple’s sales of 40.5 million units.
The company has jumped from 8.5 percent of the market to 12.1 percent in the last quarter. However, Samsung still holds the position as the world’s No 1 smartphone manufacturer with a 22 percent market share with sales of 80,816 million units.
Also, tech giant Huawei has dropped from 65,822 million devices sold to 51,830.9 million, so the company only holds 14.1 market share at the moment, but Huawei still holds the position for No 2 on the list.
Gartner also added “Samsung and Xiaomi were the only vendors in the top five to experience growth in the third quarter of 2020. Samsung benefited from its strong positioning amongst Android users. Xiaomi gained from Huawei’s loss including strong performance in China.”
